“This album is the diary of a journey through my Paris and yours,” writes cellist Gautier Capuçon. “Destination Paris represents my continued exploration of the repertoire, in the broadest sense of the word, and my desire to play works that weren’t necessarily written for the cello…“

He has included arrangements of favourite operatic numbers by Bizet, Gounod and Offenbach, music by Debussy, Ravel, Fauré and Rameau, hits from movie soundtracks (such as Summer of '42 by Michel Legrand and Un homme et une femme by Francis Lai), and chansons linked with legends like Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour. The album even features a new choral song by Jean-Jacques Goldman, long established as one of France’s top singer-songwriters.

As Gautier Capuçon says: “The cello is the instrument that most closely resembles the human voice: it has the same kind of range, colours and characteristics.” His partners on the album are pianist Jérôme Ducros, the young singers of the Maîtrise de Radio France, and the Orchestre de chambre de Paris under conductor Lionel Bringuier.
